Top Five Steps For Preventing a Stroke

Share:
top steps for preventing stroke

Every 40 seconds, a stroke occurs in the U.S. Every 3.5 minutes, someone dies of a stroke. The University of Utah developed five steps that you can take to reduce your stroke risk. A stroke is more likely to occur in older adults, those with a genetic predisposition to stroke, and individuals with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes. With your doctor, review your numbers, discuss your goals, and whether you need to take any medications. Exercising is especially important for stroke victims. You can reduce your stroke and weight gain risks by doing walking and yoga five days a week. Choose fruit over a cellophane-wrapped snack. You will reap the benefits of consuming food consistently and mindfully. Don’t smoke or vape. With one to five years after quitting smoking, there will be a significant reduction in the risk of cardiac events, including strokes. The nervous system can also be adversely affected by chronic stress, making them at greater risk of stroke. Take time to practice yoga, mindfulness exercises, and practice good sleep hygiene.
