According to a report by New Atlas, a new drug for treating high blood pressure could be available within a few months. The drug, called CSL112, is currently undergoing clinical trials and has shown promising results in reducing blood pressure levels.

The study was published in the New England Journal of Medicine. It involved over 1,200 participants who had recently suffered a heart attack. The researchers divided the participants into two groups, with one group receiving CSL112 and the other receiving a placebo. Hence, those who received CSL112 had significantly lower blood pressure levels, compared to those who received the placebo.

Dr. Robert Giugliano, a senior investigator of the study, explained how CSL112 works. It increases the removal of cholesterol from the body, which in turn leads to a decrease in blood pressure. Further, this new medication could be a game-changer in the treatment of high blood pressure. It may potentially reduce the risk of future cardiovascular events in patients who have suffered a heart attack.

Hence, the potential availability of a new drug for treating high blood pressure is promising news for millions of people worldwide who live with hypertension. It offers hope for better management and control of blood pressure levels, ultimately reducing the risk of cardiovascular complications.

Dr George Bakris, lead author of the study:

“These results reinforce the potential of the drug to provide sustained blood pressure control, improve adherence to medication via infrequent dosing, and in turn, improve outcomes for people with high blood pressure.”
