AI mirror to track your health? At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, health tech brand Withings unveiled Omnia. It is a conceptual mirror and smart scale device. It uses artificial intelligence to analyze the figure it’s reflecting. The mirror interprets data, and provides historical insights and health trends.
The AI Mirror: How Does It Work
Omnia uses AI to interpret a person’s heart health. Also, it looks into nutrition, body composition, lung function, activity, and sleep. The Omnia mirror employs voice commands, a 3D body model, and multiple health sensors. The user experience resembles stepping onto a part-mirror-part-scale. The device will scan you. The user gets access to all kinds of data, including their resting and overnight heart rate, blood pressure, muscle-to-fat ratio, water mass, pH, and more.
Omnia collects some of this data alone. Withings wearable device, a smartwatch, the proprietary blood pressure monitor, or sleep tracker users own and wear around the clock will collect other data. The smart mirror projects the data.
Withings: the Health Tech Innovator
Withings, a French consumer electronics company founded in 2008, has a history of innovation in connected health devices. In 2009, they introduced the world’s first Wi-Fi scale, revolutionizing personal health tracking.
In 2011, Withings launched the first connected blood pressure monitor, enabling users to chart their blood pressure readings at home. The company continued to expand its product line with devices like the Activité, an analog smartwatch released in 2014, and the Thermo, a smart thermometer introduced in 2016. In 2016, Nokia acquired Withings and rebranded it as Nokia Health.
However, in 2018, co-founder Éric Carreel reacquired the company, restoring the Withings name and renewing its commitment to connected health innovation.
Withings has since launched products like the ScanWatch, the first hybrid smartwatch with built-in ECG, heart rate, and oximeter, and the U-Scan, a urine testing system introduced in 2023.
Omnia remains in the conceptual stage, with no specified release date or price. Its development reflects Withings’ commitment to integrating advanced health monitoring technologies into user-friendly devices, aiming to empower individuals in managing their health.
