smartphones manage hypertension

Carolyn Harmon Still, PhD, has developed a system to aid older Black Americans in managing high blood pressure using smartphone apps. Her research will be funded by a $3.4 million grant. The National Institute of Nursing Research has awarded Still a five-year grant to conduct a study that integrates technology, such as apps that provide reminders for high blood pressure, with an online education resource site and online counseling from registered nurses to help people self-manage their conditions and become more effective advocates. The study is titled “Optimizing Technology to Improve Medication Adherence and Blood Pressure Control” and will begin later this year
